Turn on Vietnamese Telex, type the base word, then use simple letter keys to add dấu. Start with Telex first, because it works naturally on laptops and phones without memorizing number codes.
| Keys | Result | Use |
|---|---|---|
| s | sắc | ma → má |
| f | huyền | ba → bà |
| r | hỏi | hoi → hỏi |
| x | ngã | ma → mã |
| j | nặng | me → mẹ |
| aa / aw / dd | â / ă / đ | an, ăn, đi |
| ee / oo / ow / uw | ê / ô / ơ / ư | em, ô, ơn, tư |
Practical answer first
Enable Vietnamese Telex on your device, then type normally. When a vowel needs a tone, add the tone key after the syllable. For example, type xin chaof and your input method composes Xin chào.
For shape marks, double or pair letters: aa becomes â, aw becomes ă, dd becomes đ, oo becomes ô, ow becomes ơ, and uw becomes ư.
